The Prince William Police Department offered the following tips to parents who will have trick-or-treaters out on Halloween Night.
? Make sure children wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes.
? Trick-or-treaters should always be in groups so they aren’t a tempting target for real-life goblins. Parents should accompany young children.
? Make sure kids know not to enter strange houses or strangers’ cars. Children should stop only at familiar homes where the outside lights are on.
? Children need to know not to eat their treats until they get home. One way to keep trick-or-treaters from digging in while they’re still out is to feed them a meal or a snack beforehand.
? Check out all treats at home in a well-lighted place.

Fire department reminds people to check alarms
The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue reminds residents to replace smoke their detector batteries Saturday before they set their clocks back to Eastern Standard Time, Saturday night.
Nearly 80 percent of all deaths from fire in the U.S. occur in homes without working smoke detectors, said Michael O’Brien, of Prince William Fire and Rescue.
The Prince William Department of Fire and Rescue offers free smoke alarm installation to families who cannot afford them. To obtain more information contact your local fire station or call (703) 792-6380.
