Velma G. Martin

Velma Gertrude Martin, 91, of Manassas, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Annaburg Manor, Manassas.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lawton, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John V. Martin.

Survivors include two children, Vee Deanya Goodgion of Manassas and Don E. Martin of Mesquite, Texas.; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton. Becker Funeral Home in Lawton is in charge of arrangements in Oklahoma and can be reached at (800) 983-3303; Price Funeral Home of Manassas is in charge of local arrangements.

Viola M. McMurtrey

Viola Marguerite McMurtrey, 79, of Manassas, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at her home.

She was a member of the Manassas Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Manassas Park VFW Auxiliary. She retired from the Prince William County Health Department after 24 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Y. McMurtrey, who died in 1964.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce L. Evans of Centreville and Catherine A. McMurtrey of Alexandria; two sisters, Ruby Clapper of College Park, Md., and Maxine Coufal of Cotesfield, Neb.; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Manassas Church of the Nazarene, 8220 E. Spruce St., Manassas. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northern Virginia, Prince William Clinical Office, 9540 Center St., Suite 300, Manassas, VA 20110.
