Helping abused children …
Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused children will once again bring their romantic, black tie optional Evening Under the Stars to the Loy E. Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.
Doc Scantlin and the Imperial Palms Orchestra provide the swing music of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s for dancing, while Chou Chou and the Girlfriends entertain with song and dance in colorful costumes from the era.
Six-hundred people are expected at this year’s event Sept. 10, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m.
Twenty-five area restaurants and caterers provide a taste of their cuisine to those present. Benefit Auctions, Ron Leftwich and Fred Reger, will be presenting the live auction with their usual spirited enthusiasm and humor.
There will be more than 100 items donated by more than 80 area merchants in the silent auction.
CASA works with more than 300 abused, neglected and abandoned children each year through nearly 100 advocates.
The advocates are specially trained community volunteers willing to dedicate themselves to helping a maltreated child. New training classes begin in September and anyone who would like more information can call Carolyn Graham or Tara Reber at (703) 330-8145.
“Each year we look forward to this incredible evening to fellowship with the wonderful people of the community, to have an excuse to put on lovely dresses and dance with our handsomely dressed gentlemen under the stars, and all of this to brighten the future of child victims of abuse,” said Charlyn Hasson-Brown, executive director of CASA.
The Prince William Association of Realtors has scheduled a fall bowling tournament that will be conducted Sept. 15, with check-in at 12:30 p.m. and bowling at 1 p.m. at the Bowl America on Ballsford Road, near Interstate 66, Manassas. A 50-50 raffle drawing will be offered. Proceeds will benefit the organization’s community service projects, including Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays and scholarship awards.
