William Spencer Carlisle Jr., 40, of Woodbridge, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Mt. Vernon Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Prince William County and a member of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship.
Preceded in death by his parents, William S. Carlisle Sr. and Jo Ann Carlisle, he is survived by three sisters, JoAnn Covert of Tennessee, Lisa Carlisle of South Riding and Laurie Miller of Dale City; and two brothers, Joe Carlisle of Front Royal and Gary Carlisle of Fredericksburg.
A memorial service will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 13900 Church Hill Drive, Woodbridge. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md.

Edgar Ren Conner Jr., 88, of Catharpin, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church.
He was born Aug. 17, 1913, in Manassas, the son of the late Edgar Ren and Anna Ursula Newman Conner. He graduated from Swavely School in Manassas and was a 1936 graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Pattie Conner; one son, Edgar R. Conner III of Catharpin; and one sister, Elvere Cox of Charlottesville.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sudley United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5308 Sudley Road, Catharpin, the Rev. Dr. Ralph G. Satter officiating.

Edna May Sadorus Haines, 83, of Front Royal, formerly Warrenton, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at the home of Leroy and Loretta Henry.
She was born May 14, 1919, in Sadorus, Ill., the daughter of Warren and Pearl Walsh Sadorus. She moved from Sadorus to the Washington, D.C., area in the 1940s where she was a secretary for the Defense Department. She later moved to Fauquier County and became a secretary with Tom Frost. She retired from the Fauquier County Health Department. She was a member of Midland United Methodist Church and a former member of the John Marshall Garden Club.
Survivors include her son, Gordon Donald Haines Jr. of Manassas and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Midland United Methodist Church, the Rev. Brian Segal and the Rev. Bill Day officiating. Interment will take place at Craw Cemetery in Sadorus.

Carl Thomas Harris, 83, of Herndon, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Reston Hospital Center, Reston.
He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Reston.
He is survived by one daughter, Bessie Harris-Smith of Oxon Hill, Md.; son-in-law, McCalvin Smith of Oxon Hill; one granddaughter, Cher Harris of Herndon; one grandson, John Thomas Harris of Manassas; three great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Cora Carter and Evelyn Young, both of Vienna, Vergie Barbour of Clifton, Florance Lee, Bertha Brent of Centreville, Lillian Newman of Fairfax and Josephine Offer of Orange; two brothers, Charles Harris and Lloyd Harris, both of Vienna; many relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 2506 Squerrell Hill Road, Herndon, where services will be held at noon with the Rev. James Graham officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Herndon.

Karen Ann Lipinski, 55, a popular second-grade teacher at Dale City Elementary School from 1980 until she retired because of illness earlier this year, died of breast cancer, Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
Mrs. Lipinski was born in Shenandoah Heights, Pa., and raised in Edgewood, Md. She was a 1964 graduate of Edgewood High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and a master’s degree in speech pathology from the University of Nebraska. She served as a speech therapist at an Army base in Germany before returning to the Washington area in 1980, settling in Alexandria.
At Dale City Elementary, she was known for her creativity in introducing activities for her students. She raised vegetables with them in the school’s garden. In 1992, she was named Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Dale City Civic Association.
She had been a member of Edgewood United Methodist Church and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, retired Army Col. Edward Lipinski of Alexandria; her mother, Wilhelmina Yackabonis of Edgewood; and a sister, Elizabeth Eden of Helena, Mont.
Arrangements were handled by Demaine Funeral Chapel in Springfield. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on July 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
There will be a dedication ceremony at Dale City Elementary School in the fall.
John David Taylor, 48, of Alexandria, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Oak Meadow Nursing Center in Alexandria.
He worked with his father in their family-owned construction company. He built many homes in the Mount Vernon area.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda M. Taylor.
He is survived by his father, John W. Taylor of Alexandria; his son, Nicholas Richard Marra of Harper’s Ferry, W.Va.; his sister, Jody L. Taylor of Lorton; and one nephew.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, where services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Manassas.

Arthur Carroll Sampson Jr., 56, of Woodbridge, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Potomac Hospital.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 162 in Lorton and a member of the Elks Lodge No. 2355.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy K. Sampson of Woodbridge; two sons, Duane C. Sampson and his wife, Patricia, and W. Todd Sampson and his wife, Teresa, all of Stafford; two granddaughters, Rachel and Kaitlyn Sampson; one sister, Cheryl Zacharias of Woodbridge; four brothers, Michael Sampson, Ronnie Sampson and Chris Sampson, all of Woodbridge, and Wayne Sampson of Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., today at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Mark Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Stafford Memorial Park.
