Potomac News Online | Three injured in Stafford brawl
Three Prince William County residents were stabbed during a fight at a party early Sunday morning in northern Stafford County, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies charged a 20-year-old New York City man with aggravated malicious wounding and are expected to charge more people in the incident, said Maj. David Decatur, department spokesman.
Two of the three victims, an 18-year-old Dumfries man and a 20-year-old Prince William County resident, whose address was not released, were both released from the hospital later Sunday, Decatur said.
A 20-year-old Dale City man suffered numerous cuts to his upper torso, but was in stable condition Sunday at Mary Washington Hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Decatur said.
Detectives are currently investigating the incident to determine how the fight started, Decatur said.
“There was a large group of people, probably about 70, who were standing around watching the fight,” a resident of Wind Ridge Drive who asked not to be identified said Monday. “There were probably about 20 people fighting and everyone standing around watching them.”
“It was just young people acting stupid,” the neighbor said.
A deputy responded to a call for an improperly parked vehicle around 1 a.m. in the 800 block of Wind Ridge drive in the Potomac Hills subdivision off Jefferson Davis Highway when he saw an estimated 100 people gathered further down the block, Decatur said.
Several of the people were fighting and the deputy called for additional back up. He also got on his public address system and told them to break the fight up, but they did not, Decatur said.
One of the victims went to the deputy and showed him his injury. A short time later, deputies on scene found all three victims, who were later treated and sent to area hospitals, Decatur said.
Detectives then began speaking with people on the scene, but they could not give much information, Decatur said. Detectives are still unsure what triggered the fight.
“We got all our information from a few people,” Decatur said. “We’re still trying to determine who was involved and how the fight started.”
Deputies arrested Koran Hilliard, 20, of New York City, shortly after the fight and charged him with aggravated malicious wounding as well as obstruction of justice for allegedly giving deputies a wrong name, Decatur said.
Several weapons were recovered from the scene and the investigation is still ongoing.
