Manassas Journal Messenger | Contract signed for high school site
A new high school is planned for the mid-county area, and now the school district has the land for it.
At Wednesday’s School Board meeting, the board authorized a contract to purchase a 22-acre site for the school.
The board will pay $2.5 million for the site at 13650 Independence Drive, near the intersection of Hoadly Road and Va. 234.
The property is currently owned by Betty Jean Eller and CLC Family LLC.
The school is slated to open in 2014, according to the school system’s current capital improvements plan.
The plan lists eight new elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools that will open by 2015, when enrollment is projected to top 84,700 students. This year, 70,723 students had enrolled in county schools as Sept. 29.
As of this year there are 53 elementary schools, 14 middle schools, 10 high schools and eight other schools in the county.
There is currently no high school in the Hoadly Road area.
Students from the Hoadly Road corridor attend either Hylton High School on Spriggs Road in Woodbridge or Osbourn Park High School on Euclid Avenue in the Manassas area, according to school boundary maps.
