Prince William County residents may bring recyclable items and other waste products to the county landfill for disposal in designated areas.

? Location: 14811 Dumfries Road, Independent Hill.

? Landfill hours: Monday-Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; holidays, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; closes at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve.

? Fees: There is no fee for Prince William County residents (it is included in real estate taxes). For non-residents in Manassas, Manassas Park, Occoquan, Haymarket or Dumfries, there is a $5 flat fee for first 200 pounds; 2.25 cents per pound for all refuse over 200 pounds. All non-resident passenger cars should stop at the booth and pay. Pickups, trucks and vans must pass over the scales.

? There are two areas designated as Convenient Trash Drop-Off Locations where residents in the western end of Prince William County can drop trash every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.:

Nokesville Elementary School, 121625 Fitzwater Drive, Nokesville and Evergreen Fire Station, 3510 James Madison Highway, Gainesville.

? Recycle at the landfill: No. 1 and 2 plastic bottles and jugs (no bags), magazines, corrugated cardboard, motor oil, anti-freeze, car batteries, scrap metal, white paper, tires, phone books, newspapers, glass bottles, tin cans and yard waste.

? Hazardous waste facility at the landfill is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for paints, fertilizers, old gasoline, kerosene and other household hazardous wastes, as well as electronics.

? Recycle at curb and igloos: glass, aluminum cans only, tin, steel and bi-metal cans, plastic bottles, newspapers (bagged or tied), household batteries. Call (703) 792-4670 for nearest location.

? The compost facility on Balls Ford Road accepts all types of waste including yard cuttings, household trash, large items such as appliances, and all recyclables.

Residents may purchase compost and mulch. Items not accepted: car batteries, tires, hazardous household waste, sod, rocks, dirt and paint.
