Potomac News Online | 9-11 memorial funding a tenth of the way there

Another $2,525 has been collected this week for the 9-11 Liberty Memorial fund.

“We’re 10 percent of the way with a grand total of $31,808.49,” said Janet Ellis, chairman of the 9-11 Liberty Memorial Committee.

The group is committed to raising $300,000 in order to build and maintain a tribute to those area residents who died in terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The memorial will be built on the grounds of the McCoart Administration Center, the county’s administrative complex on the Prince William Parkway.

“Again, this week’s donations were mostly from area individuals who very generously donated more than the $1.” Ellis said. “We salute those folks.”

The Potomac News and The Manassas Journal Messenger will list those who have contributed during the previous week.

The following are those individuals and organizations: Anne and John Hill; Theresa and Charles Neth; Jeffrey Brewer; Tereso De-J Medrano-Rivera; Tammy and Joe Normandy; Stephanie and Allen Beverstock; Alma Boteleer and Jennifer Bradley; Ronda and Dean Sprague; Ellenor Gedney; Catherine and Charlie Deane; Shirley and John Rice; and SB Communications-Community Connection.

Additionally this week, County Connection donated $1,000 with a matching contribution from the family of Gregory and Barbara Lydell.?

“This memorial is a tribute to our 22 lost souls,” Ellis said. “It is also a historical marker for future generations.”

Northern Virginia Electrical Cooperative along with the Potomac News and the Manassas Journal Messenger are still the only contributors of the Patriot Star Sponsor designations.?

“However, several other companies are conducting drives to join their ranks or move up,” Ellis said.

? Freedom Star Sponsor, $25,000 or more, specific announcement at the Memorial Dedication Ceremony, name/organization listing on Contributor Plaque, recognition within Dedication Ceremony Program Brochure, Web site recognition, written recognition in all materials, as appropriate;

? Eagle Star Sponsor, $10,000 or more, mention at the Memorial Dedication Ceremony, name/organization listing on Contributor Plaque; recognition within Dedication Ceremony Program Brochure, Web site recognition, written recognition in all materials, as appropriate

? Patriot Star Sponsor, $5,000 or more, name/organization listing on Contributor Plaque; recognition within Dedication Ceremony Program Brochure, Web site recognition, written recognition in all materials, as appropriate;

Those wishing to make a donation of $5 or more at the Potomac News or the Manassas Journal Messenger offices will receive a 9-11 Memorial poster.

“The poster depicts the tragedy of the day and will be a historical keepsake for you and possibly your children,” Ellis said.
