Manassas Journal Messenger | Police release details about fatal shooting
Police released the name of the 29-year-old man killed Thursday between 6:30 and 6:40 p.m. at Regency Place Apartments near the intersection of Va. 28 and Va. 660, said Detective Dennis Mangan, Prince William police spokesman.
Ronald Norman McCorn was shot and killed after he left an apartment at 9856 Shallow Creek Court with someone he apparently knew, Mangan said.
Witnesses told police that a black man wearing a dark jacket came to the apartment on Shallow Creek Court where McCorn was staying and asked for McCorn, Mangan said.
McCorn left the apartment with a man police believe shot him. The two men walked around the corner and down the street to a playground in common area where McCorn was shot, Mangan said.
Someone in the area heard the gun shots and called police, Mangan said.
McCorn died at the scene.
Police searched the area with K-9 units but the dogs could not pick up a trail from the soaked ground after Thursday’s daylong rain.
Witnesses told police that the man who left the apartment with McCorn was 6 feet tall and wore the fir-trimmed hood of his jacket over his face, Mangan said.
Police locked down the complex for more that an hour and prevented anyone from leaving.
People with proof that they lived in the complex were allowed inside.
There have been 10 murders, including McCorn’s, in Prince William County and three in the City of Manassas so far this year.
There were 15 murders in Prince William County in 2003.
