Manassas Journal Messenger | Mustangs play today, try to stay alive
The Greater Manassas Baseball League team, the Manassas Mustangs, have won two games and lost one in the Cal Ripken-Babe Ruth 10-Year-Old World Series in Williamsburg.
They will play tonight at 8 in Williamsburg.
If the team wins, the Mustangs will play Thursday, according to Manager Mike Corbin.
“We’ve only given up four runs in the whole tournament,” Corbin said, in an interview on his cell phone Tuesday. Corbin said the pitching has been strong.
“The kids are having a blast,” Corbin exclaimed. On Tuesday, their plans involved spending the day at Busch Gardens amusement park in Williamsburg.
The Mustangs won at the district and state levels. The Mustangs are the first team in the 46-year history of the Greater Manassas Baseball League to advance to a national championship world series.
The team could be in Williamsburg up to Saturday, depending on how long they keep winning. The championship game will be played Aug. 9 at 10 am. The tournament is a double elimination event.
The Manassas Mustangs were victorious over at team from Massachusetts, 13-1 Saturday. On Sunday, the team lost 1-0 to a team from Kentucky. The team beat a team from Washington 5-2 on Monday, according to Corbin.
As of Tuesday, Corbin said the Mustangs can finish no worse than fifth place in the series.
