Car hits tree, kills woman

An 18-year-old Fredericksburg woman was killed at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. She lost control of a 2001 Volkswagen CI and ran off of the north bound lanes of U.S. 1 and into a tree between Delaware Drive and Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.

Witnesses told police that Amanda Colon, who died in the accident, seemed to have been in a contest of wills with another driver.

“From what witnesses say it sounds like there was some kind of traffic altercation,” Chinn said of the accident that also injured two passengers who were traveling with Colon.

Witnesses told police that Colon, of Chancellor Road in Fredericksburg, would not allow the driver of a turquoise Acura to merge into traffic after the two cars left the intersection of Dale Boulevard and U.S. 1, Chinn said.

“The other car finally cut in front of her and then shortly after that she lost control, so we’:d like to find the driver of the other car,” Chinn said.

The Acura, a type 2 CL, witnesses said, had script lettering in the back window that said “peoplez,” Chinn said.

A 15-year-old girl who was thrown from the car during the accident was flown to an area hospital, Chinn said.

A 19-year-old man, who was also thrown from the red Volkswagen during the accident, was taken to Potomac Hospital.

The condition of the passengers was not known, Chinn said.

Witnesses could not say if the accident was the result of a disagreement, Chinn said.

“Was it road rage? Were they racing or was she speeding and wouldn’:t let somebody in? Was there anger involved?” Chinn said. “The witness described it as they were sort of racing.”
