Pierce Homer is coming back home.
The Virginia Secretary of Transportation for both current Gov. Timothy Kaine and predecessor Mark Warner will be back in Manassas to discuss transportation issues in both Prince William County and the Commonwealth on Oct. 24 at 11:30 a.m.
He will speak to the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce at the Best Western Battlefield Inn, 10820 Balls Ford Road.
The chamber will welcome Homer back to the county where he served for 15 years in several senior management positions, including deputy county executive.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling Anita Duecaster at (703) 368-6600, Ext. 13. Cost is $25 prepaid and $30 at the door or billed. Non-members is $35.
Other events planned by the chamber for the month include:
• Brown Bag Seminar Series today at noon at the chamber office. Topic is “Preventive Health Care and the Workplace” and the speaker is Dr. Valencia Cobb, Heritage Village Internal Medicine, who will tell how to increase productivity and experience a drop in sick days taken by encouraging employees to make healthy lifestyle choices.
• A second Brown Bag Seminar is set for Oct. 19 at noon and will feature Sonya Jacob, B.E.A.C.O.N., talking on “Fair Hiring and Firing: Learn about Employment Documentation.” She will discuss how worker citizenship status, national origin and legal documentation are becoming increasingly important issues for employers.
• Connections ETC 2006 on Oct. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center, 10900 University Blvd.
