Edith Dawson

Edith Sofie Dawson, 76, of Dale City died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Potomac Hospital.

She moved to the United States in 1950 when she married her husband, Sgt. Major Harry Dawson. She moved to Woodbridge in 1969. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. She was a member of various other clubs including the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Danish Club of Washington, D.C. She also was a former Lioness Club member and a retiree club member at Fort Belvoir.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and one brother, Niels Christensen.

She is survived by two daughters, Denise Dawson of Colorado and Janet Bhagat of New Hampshire; two sons, Steven Dawson of Texas and James Dawson of Oregon; five grandchildren, Jennifer Dawson, Phil Dawson, Maren Bhagat, Heather Bhagat and William Bhagat; and one sister, Bodil Madsen of Denmark.

The family will receive friends today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 14999 Birchdale Ave., Dale City. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.

June Sawyer Hewitt

June Carol Sawyer Hewitt, 71, of Dale City died Friday, July 19, 2002 at her home after a long illness.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Walter Hewitt Sr.; two sons, John Walter Hewitt Jr. of Triangle and James Ronald Hewitt of Fredericksburg; three sisters, Mrs. Kaye Frances Sawyer Jones, Mrs. Judy Lynn Sawyer Shoemaker and Mrs. Mary Beth Sawyer Humes; three brothers, William C. Sawyer and Thomas Steven Sawyer, both from Hampton and Newport News, Robert Gordon Sawyer from San Antonio; and 24 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Basil Sawyer Sr.; her mother, Mrs. Estelle Frances Haley Sawyer; one brother, James Basil Sawyer Jr.; and one sister, Mrs. Cynthia Gail Sawyer Wren.

She trained at Riverside Hospital’s School of Nursing in Newport News. She was a registered nurse in the psychiatric department at Alexandria Hospital and retired after 16 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City for 32 years.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. A Mass will be said at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Road, Dale City at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
