Mary L. Edwards, 64, of Woodbridge, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Potomac Hospital.
She was born in Petersburg and spent most of her life in Bronx, N.Y. She recently moved backto Northern Virginia and has spent the last two years in Prince William County. She was a devoted member of the Cornerstone Christian Center in Woodbridge.
While in Bronx, she contributed much of her time donating clothing and food to the needy at the New Tabernacle Baptist Church. She retired from the New York City Department of Social Services as a social worker. She loved cooking, sewing and reading.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Higgs, Maud Higgs and Olivia Dickens; and five brothers, Edward Wilson, and Jack, Joe, Edward and James Higgs.
She is survived by three daughters, Lisa R. Boathwright of Gaithersburg, Md., Regina Edwards of Bronx, and Monique Muldrow of Woodbridge; two sons, Neal J. Higgs of Bronx and Craig S. Higgs of Columbia, Md.; two brothers, Frank Batts of Brooklyn, N.Y., and William Higgs of Kissimmee, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Nequiree Weathers, Quiana White, Lashana Weathers, India Weathers, Kia Higgs, Michael Saunders, Keyaira Saunders, Stevon Higgs, Darius Higgs, Sha-Niya Bailey, and Ka-Deva Higgs; and four great-grandchildren, Dejeanea, Destiny, Malicia and Aalya Weathers.
The family will receive friends on Friday from noon until 2 p.m., with funeral services at 2 p.m., at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, with the Rev. Richard Pennington officiating. Interment will be private.
