James Grandstaff

James “Frank” Grandstaff, 66, died Friday, July 26, 2002 at his home in Rural Retreat.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Totten Grandstaff; five daughters, Missy Sullins, Sharon Grandstaff, Julie Grandstaff and Ashton Grandstaff, all of Rural Retreat; one son, Matt Grandstaff of Rural Retreat; his mother, Annie Grandstaff of Edinburg; two sisters, Barbara Bowman of Edinburg, and Frances Walker of Stanardsville; three brothers, Robert Grandstaff of Basye, and William Grandstaff and Kenneth Grandstaff, both of Edinburg; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Sage and Rev. Mark Totten officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Gardens in Atkins, where military rites will be conducted by Marion V.F.W Post #4667.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

George Wolfe

George William Wolfe, 78, of Falls Church died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at his home.

He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beth Wolfe, he is survived by two sons, Gary Wolfe and George Wolfe Jr., both of Falls Church; one daughter, Linda Lynn of Woodbridge; two brothers, James Wolfe and Fred Wolfe; one sister, Gladys Eanes; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, where services will take place Monday at 10 a.m., the Rev. David Moshier officiating. Burial will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Childrens Hospital Foundation, 111 Michigan Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20010 in memory of George Wolfe.

The Rev. William Rodeffer

The Rev. William Howard Rodeffer, 89, of McGaheysville died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at his daughters home in Port Republic.

He was born Dec. 22, 1912 in Rockingham County, the son of the late George Conrad and Mamie Wampler Rodeffer.

He graduated from Bridgewater College in 1937. He taught in the Rockingham County Public School System for 37 years and served as principal of McGaheysville Elementary.

He was a member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren and the Grottoes Ruritan Club. He was a self-employed painting and wallpaper contractor.

He was an ordained minister and elder in the Church of the Brethren and served churches in the surrounding area including Rockingham, Augusta and Page counties for more than 60 years. He was married to Minnie Shores on Dec. 24, 1937.

Preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, he is survived by four sons, Charles W. Rodeffer and William H. Rodeffer Jr., both of Harrisonburg, Gary N. Rodeffer of Woodbridge and John T. Rodeffer of Bellingham, Wash.; two daughters, Janice R. Tusing of Middletown and Linda R. Shifflett of Port Republic; one brother, David Rodeffer of Wilmington, Del.; one sister, Dorothy Hill of Clover Hill; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends anytime at the home of Linda and David Shifflett in Port Republic until 3 p.m. Sunday.

A private burial will take place Sunday at Mill Creek Church Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, Pastors A. Lee Kinsey and Gene Williams officiating.

Nancy Nevitt

Nancy Dove Nevitt, 84, of Lorton died Friday, July 26, 2002 at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Preceded in death by her husband, John W. Nevitt Sr., and her sister, Lorraine Buglia, she is survived by one daughter, Judy L. Nevitt of Manassas; three sons, John W. Nevitt Jr. of Mt. Washington, Ky., Cary D. Nevitt of Alexandria and Gary F. Nevitt of Newington; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Drive, Woodbridge, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Pohick Cemetery in Lorton.

Barbara Mitchell

Barbara Anne Mitchell, 44, of Dale City died Monday, July 22, 2002 at Potomac Hospital.

She lived in Alexandria and Dale City all her life. She graduated from Congressional High School in 1975.

Preceded in death by her father, James M. Mitchell, she is survived by her mother, Mary Mitchell of Harwood, Md., and one sister, Elizabeth M. Martin, also of Harwood.

Services will be private.

Fannie Mae Ellis

Fannie Mae Ellis, 110, of Nokesville died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at Blue Ridge Christian Home.

She was born in Greenwich on May 1, 1892. She was a lifelong member of Greenwich Presbyterian Church. She taught in the Prince William County Public School System and worked in the U.S. Navy Department when she retired.

Preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Fannie House, and her husband, Raymond Lee Ellis, survivors include two daughters, Frances E. Chilian of Pinehurst, N.C., and Nancy E. Wiita of Nokesville; one son, Raymond Lee Ellis Jr. of Gloucester; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moser Funeral Home Inc., 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton. Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Donald Meeks officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
