Autopsy: Singer died of natural causes

David Wayne Williams, the lead singer of the rock group Drowning Pool found dead on a tour bus in Manassas in August, died of natural causes, said Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman, Thursday evening.

Autopsy results released Thursday revealed thatWilliams suffered from heart failure caused by cardiomyopathy, a disease where areas of heart muscle enlarge and thicken.

Toxicology reports from the autopsy revealed that Williams had insignificant amounts of alcohol and prescription medication in his system. The alcohol and drugs were not a factor in his death, Chinn said.

Williams, 30, and the band were scheduled to appear on the main stage of Ozzfest, a concert event featuring several rock bands at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow.

Williams’ band mates left the bus Aug. 14 to check into the Holiday Inn off Interstate 66 just outside Manassas. When Williams didn’t follow, they returned to the bus and found him dead in his bunk.

Drowning Pool formed in Dallas in the late 1990s and took their name from a 1975 Paul Newman movie of the same name, according to the Web site.
