• There’s a few days left, and some great action still to see at the 56th Annual Prince William County Fair now under way at the county fairgrounds. The last of the Demolition Derby contests will run tonight. And Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m., area mud boggers will try to bring home the top trophy.

• If something a little more refined is to your taste, then go to Haymarket for the Bluemont Concert Series on Saturday night.

• A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the New Wellington Road will be held today at 10 a.m. at the corner of Limestone Drive and New Wellington Road. Gainesville District Supervisor Wally Covington and Jim Todd, president of The Peterson Companies, will do the honors, giving motorists better access to New Linton Hall Road and Va. 29.

• Also on the transportation front, don’t forget the major detour on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 66 that begins Sunday. Long delays are expected as crews begin work on a 3.9-mile widening project between Va. 234 business and the Va. 234 Bypass. For more details, go to www.virginiadot.org.

• Diana Kerns of Gainesville will exhibit acrylic paintings at the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College from Aug. 30 to Sept. 26. Kerns is a graduate of the Manassas campus fine arts program. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is in the Colgan Hall First Floor Exhibit Space. Northern Virginia Community College is located at 6901 Sudley Road.

The community is invited to meet Kerns during a reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the exhibit space.

• There’s still time to register for the Bull Run Regional Library program Finding Your Immigrant Ancestor’s Village to be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Presented by Carol Whitton, coordinator for Fairfax County Genealogical Society’s German Special Interest Group, the program will help attendees learn what’s needed to locate your European ancestor before you cross the Atlantic Ocean. Call (703) 792-4540 to register for the free program.
