Residential Prince William County areas will see new stop signs and, on one street, a $200 increase in speeding fines.
Montclair’s Homeowners Association has identified a speeding problem on Spring Branch Boulevard, where the county has requested a sign indicating drivers who speed will be fined $200.
The $200 fine is in addition to other speeding ticket fines.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is responsible for installing the signs 60 days after receiving the county’s formal request.
County staff posted signs in three other areas requesting input on installing stop signs in residential intersections.
After receiving support for all three, the county has requested VDOT to install multi-way stop signs at Brook Drive and Bayfield Drive at Dale City Elementary School.
It has also requested installation of a multi-way stop sign at Alabama Avenue and Indiana Avenue in Woodbridge.
If approved by VDOT, stop signs at all three intersections would be installed in four to six weeks after receiving the supervisor’s resolution, approved Aug. 5.
County staff will request that Washington Homes, Inc. install stop signs at a third intersection in the Dumfries Magisterial District at Lake Terrapin Drive and Copper Turtle Place.
According to a county staff report, the signs could also take four to six weeks for installation.
