Financial planner named to county school board

The Prince William School Board selected a financial planner Wednesday to fill the term left vacant by the death of Neabsco District representative Mary Williams.

Julie Lucas, owner and president of Lucas Financial Group in Springfield, said “I realize I have big shoes to fill, that she had a very active presence in the community and [I] hope to be able to continue that.”

Her main focus is to do what she can to improve Standards of Learning test scores in the Neabsco District and see that schools reach full accreditation by 2007.

“I’m extremely excited about this opportunity and I really feel I’m ready to hit the ground running to best represent the students, parents, teachers of the Neabsco District,” she said.

Lucas serves on the Education and Government council of Prince William Chamber of Commerce and the Career and Technical Education Advisory Board. She also serves as secretary of the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club and chairwoman of Administrative and Youth Services for the group.

Lucas’ term ends Dec. 31, 2003,

Williams, a former county teacher, died of cancer Sept. 16.
