Apparently, Rock ‘n’ Fire can also rumble. The 16-&-under travel softball squad slugged it out against a field of 18-&-under teams and came away with a first-place trophy at the NSA Rock and Rumble Tournament in Laurel, Md.
Rock ‘n’ Fire went 6-0 during the weekend competition and clinched a berth in the NSA World Series in July.
Gar-Field’s Becky Horesky homered in the championship game ? a 4-0 victory over the Vienna Shamrocks. Horesky, Osbourn’s Cristi Ecks, and Kelly Weber of Madison High School each picked up victories in the pitcher’s circle.
In addition to a 3-1 win over the Shamrocks in pool play, Rock ‘n’ Fire also topped the U-18 Heartbreakers 6-3, the U-18 Cumberland Magic 3-1, the U-18 Mid Shore Express 3-0 and the U-18 Maryland Stars 6-2.
With 12 players from Prince William County on the roster, Rock ‘n’ Fire defeated the Shamrocks twice en route to the championship.
Other local players include: Adrienne Johnson, Kat Beauvais and Brittney Lyddane from Osbourn Park; Jennifer Haynes of Forest Park; Sarah Malene of Gar-Field; Sarah Himan, Amanda D’Attilio and Ryan Rusk from Hylton; Shyla Rider of Potomac and Alyssa Kemmerer from Osbourn.
FIRE & ICE CAPTUREVIENNA INVITATIONAL
The Fire & Ice 12-&-under softball team won a 5-4 thriller against the Ashburn Shooting Stars to capture the Vienna Invitational championship.
After going 2-1 in bracket play, Fire & Ice routed the Maryland Flames 8-0 before edging the Shooting Stars in the finale.
Rachel Harvey and Marie Shaughnessy combined for the pitching victories as Fire & Ice earned a berth in the PONY National championships in Sterling next month.
