Manassas Journal Messenger | Board to vote on parking issue
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors will vote Tuesday on whether to restrict the parking of boats, trailers and recreational vehicles, and camping trailers on county streets during the 2 p.m. session at the McCoart Administration Center.
According to Virginia law, the county has the authority to prohibit parking on county streets.
Representatives from the county’s public works department held community meetings in the Coles, Woodbridge, Neabsco and Dumfries magisterial districts to get feedback on the proposed parking ban.
Opinion was mixed at the Coles meeting. People were more supportive of the ban in the other districts.
There were no meetings in the Brentsville and Gainesville districts.
The supervisors will also vote on whether to appropriate $250,000 for the planning of affordable housing for county firefighters, police officers 0and school teachers.
The money would come from $1.5 million of existing affordable housing proffers and go to the Housing Preservation and Development Fund to be contributed to the Greater Prince William Community Development Center.
Also in front of the board will be a resolution on whether to transfer $615,000 from other emergency funds to buy gas for county vehicles.
County documents show that fuel prices have risen from an average of $1.76 to $2.78 per gallon of regular gasoline last year. Diesel went from an average of $1.75 to $2.70.
The money would go to the the Department of Public Works’ Fleet Management Division.
The board will also consider whether to accept, budget and appropriate $4.3 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to cover rent subsidies for the Office of Housing and Community Development’s Rental Assistance Program.
The community development department got the extra money because HUD determined that it owed money to the county based on actual rents rather than estimates of rents for the year.
Supervisors will hear presentations on the progress of George Mason University’s Community Performing Arts Center, the Museum of Americans at War in Manassas and the Belmont Bay Science Museum.
There will also be a vote to authorize public hearings on solid waste user fee rates and an increase in Prince William County’s storm water management fee.
