• Buckhall United Methodist Church’s youth group is traveling to the Appalachian Mountains this summer on a mission trip, wrote Amanda Best, one of the church members.
Because the trip costs are high, the church will hold a few events to raise some money.
On June 4 the church is holding a community yard sale on Moore Drive in Buckhall, just south of Prince William Parkway.
On June 25 the church will wash cars at the Liberia Avenue Wal-Mart from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• The Prince William Public Library System is always thinking of the children, especially out in western Prince William.
The Nokesville Neighborhood Library, 12993 Fitzwater Drive, Nokesville, is hosting some fun activities for children from kindergarten through fifth-grade next week.
Tuesday Movies features May Fool and the Flying Flagship at 4 p.m. on May 24. Mouse Ship plays at 4 p.m. on May 31.

The Gainesville Neighborhood Library, 4603 James Madison Highway, Haymarket, hosts a preschool story time for children ages three to five starting at 10:30 a.m. on May 24 and May 31.
Middle and high school students might enjoy game day at Bull Run Regional Library on May 28.
Yu-gi-oh, Pictionary, chess, checkers, Risk and many more games will provide arenas for youths to duke it out mental style.
Snacks are provided and kids can bring their own games. Dueling begins at 1:30 p.m.

• The Farmer’s Almanac advises that this weekend will be an excellent time to plant above-ground crops.
May 22 is a good day to plant leafy vegetables and starting seed beds. May 23 is a nice time to plant carrots, beets onions, turnips and other root crops.
But don’t do any planting on May 24 or May 25, the age-old guide recommends.
