Manassas Journal Messenger | Manassas soldier among dead at Mosul
A soldier from Manassas was among those killed Tuesday by a suicide bomber in Mosul, Iraq.
The name of Sgt. Maj. Robert D. O’Dell, 38, of Manassas was added to the list of 22 Americans who died after an explosion at a military dining tent, the Department of Defense announced Friday.
O’Dell was assigned to the United States Army Intelligence & Security Command at Fort Belvoir, according to the Department of Defense.
He is the second area soldier to die in the explosion.
Virginia National Guardsman Spc. David Ruhren, a 2002 graduate of Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge was identified Thursday by the Department of Defense.
Officials do not release names of military personnel killed until 24 hours after family members have been contacted, according to Lt. Col. Chester Carter, public affairs officer for the Virginia Army National Guard.
