Motorists on Interstate 395 south are likely to face delays Saturday night and Sunday morning at the Springfield Interchange, said a Virginia Department of Transportation press release.
Crews will work overnight to hoist steel beams over I-395 at the interchange, the release said.
The beams were supposed to go in last weekend but the work was postponed because of rain, said Steve Titunik, spokesman for the VDOT Springfield Interchange Project.
The closures will result in a six-mile detour that will add about 20 minutes to motorists’ trips, the release said.
Motorists heading toward Springfield and points south will be able to use the south HOV lanes, the press release said.
Motorists who want to go east toward the Woodrow Wilson Bridge from I-395 south and motorists entering I-395 south at the Edsall Road exit will be detoured to I-495 north and turn around at Braddock Road, the release said.
More than 440,000 vehicles travel through the interchange every day.

Message signs will be posted on I-395/95 South from Duke Street to points south and will remain in place until Saturday afternoon when closure signs will be put up, the release said.
Virginia State Police and VDOT safety crews will be stationed along the detour route, the release said.
