Tucker passes on to next round on ‘Idol’
Manassas native Travis Tucker, 21, made it through the first round of voting Wednesday on “American Idol” to claim a spot in the top 20.
He sang “My Cherie Amour,” by Stevie Wonder on Monday after becoming a top 24 finalist.
Viewers voted off the worst performers by text messaging and calling in to vote for their favorites.
The two female performers and two male performers with the fewst votes were dismissed Wednesday night.
The show secluded Tucker for the second time. When he advanced to the top 24, it came down to him and one other contestant. In a similarly dramatic fashion, Tucker was placed in front of the camera with Jared Yates of Danville, Ill., with a 50 percent chance of making it to the top 20. America voted off Yates, meaning Tucker will sing again Monday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
Tucker, a 2001 graduate of Osbourn Park High School, took this semester off from the University of Virginia, where he is finishing a joint Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics and Master’s degree in Education.
