Manassas Journal Messenger | Tucker makes another hurdle
Take a deep breath, he made it.
Wednesday night Manassas native Travis Tucker was passed through to another round on “American Idol.” He is one of eight men and 16 total contestants left singing.
In similar form to the past two results shows, Tucker, 21, was dramatically singled out.
“Idol” host Ryan Seacrest called Tucker and three contestants to the front of the stage. Two of the four were sent home.
“Travis, you sang ‘All Night Long,'” Seacrest said after deeming Mario Vazquez of New York safe. “I’m not going to have you up here all night long. You are safe.”
Tucker sat back down and the two men standing, David Brown of Louisiana and Joseph Murena of New York, were eliminated.
Tucker will sing at 8 p.m. Monday on FOX and the results will air on Wednesday at 9 p.m. Both programs are live.
Tucker’s rendition of Lionel Ritchie’s song included dance moves reminiscent of Michael Jackson with the pop appeal of artists Usher and Justin Timberlake.
It was a welcome change by the judges from the previous week’s show when Tucker sang “My Cherie Amour” by Stevie Wonder. Judge Randy Jackson called Monday a “100 percent improvement.”
Tucker, a 2001 graduate of Osbourn Park High School, was an All-State chorale selection his junior and senior years, an honor student and standout soccer player. In 2001 he was named the Potomac News & Manassas Journal Messenger’s Male Scholar Athlete.
