Manassas Journal Messenger | Suspect arrested in attempted machete attack
A 24-year-old Manassas Park man allegedly swung a machete out of his car window at a city resident Wednesday afternoon, but did not hurt him, Manassas police said.
Kenneth Wagner, of 7906 Manassas Drive, was charged with attempted malicious wounding, said Sgt. Tim Neumann, police spokesman.
Neumann did not know if the men had a previous relationship or if any words were exchanged between them before the attack.
The victim was walking near Hood Road and Town Lane when he saw a black Honda Civic driving fast toward him around 4:45 p.m.
The car pulled up to the victim and Wagner allegedly leaned out the window and unsuccessfully tried to slash the victim with a machete, Neumann said.
The victim ran away and Wagner drove off. Police found Wagner driving in the area later and found a machete in his car.
Wagner is being held with no bond for an April 4 court date.
In April of last year, Wagner was found guilty of trespassing and sentenced to 60 days in jail with 50 of them suspended.
In October of 2002, Wagner was sentenced to 10 days in jail for contempt of court.
