Winners

… The Prince William Chapter of the American Red Cross, which is bringing some holiday cheer to servicemen serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and other areas of conflict. The families of the soldiers can make an appointment by calling (703) 368-4511, Ext. 222 to send a personal video message to their loved ones overseas. Those receiving the message do not need any special equipment as the videos can be sent to their personal computer or to the Red Cross station where they are stationed. The chapter can also bring the computers to the hospital to introduce a new baby or to family birthday parties and other special events on a first-come, first served basis.

… Pets Limited Animal Rescue, a non-profit group that will conduct a benefit bake sale and raffle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Giant grocery store at the corner of Centreville Road and Liberia Avenue in Manassas. A few dogs and puppies will be available for adoption. Dog food and dog supplies donations will be accepted as well as money, according to Dominique McPhail, who can be reached at (703) 670-0693 for more information.

… The Bethel Bach Orchestra and Martin Luther Choir, which will present a concert of baroque masterworks for the holidays at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Manassas at 7 p.m. Sunday. The concert is sponsored by Bethel Arts, the newly-formed community arts outreach group. Tickets to the event are $10 for adults and anyone under 21 may attend free of charge.

The concert will feature choral excerpts from Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Messiah as well as the popular Oboe Concerto in C-minor by Alessandro Marcello (1684-1750) with soloist Megan Blauvelt. The concert will be conducted from the harpsichord by David Montgomery who is internationally known.

Losers

… The thief or thieves that made off with a lighted “Snoopy” figure from the lawn of the Jim Conroy family. It has been in the family for years and always adorns the front of the house on Battlefield Drive until it went missing this week.

… Motorists who will drink too much alcohol over the upcoming holidays and still think they are capable of driving safely.
