Manassas Journal Messenger | Lawsuit filed in street race that killed two
A $3 million lawsuit was filed in Circuit Court this week against two Manassas men whom the lawsuit charges with responsibility for a 2001 car accident that killed two women.
Henry Maurico Dominguez, 21, of 8382 Iron Gate Way, and Franklin Edmundo Rivera, 21, of 7814 Howard Street, were racing their cars on Well Street north of Manassas on a rainy evening in September 2001. Dominguez failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Well and Leland Road, and struck Ruth Saylor’s car.
Saylor, 64, and her mother, Mary Elizabeth Scrivener, 92, who was a passenger in the car, were both killed.
Rivera, who managed to stop his car before entering the intersection, was sentenced to 18 months. Dominguez was found guilty of two counts of involuntary manslaughter, and sentenced to serve eight years in prison and 500 hours of community service.
The lawsuit was brought by the administrators of Scrivener’s estate, Louis Scrivener of Manassas and Helen J. Tychinski of Rockville, Md.
