MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –?Shortstop Tony Pena drilled a two-run home run in the seventh inning to lead the Myrtle Beach Pelicans past the Potomac Cannons 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
With the score tied at 1, Pena connected off Potomac starter Edward Valdez (3-2) for the game’s final runs. Pelicans starter Macay McBride (8-7) notched the win, scattering seven hits in seven innings.
Tony Blanco tied the score with a solo home run in the top of the sixth.
The Cannons won the first three games of the five-game series, including a 5-2 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader on Saturday. However, Potomac (26-29) lost the nightcap 4-2. With Wilmington’s 4-3 win Sunday, Potomac has fallen seven and a half games out of first place.
The Cannons begin a three-game set at Kinston Monday. They return for their final homestand of the season on Friday against Lynchburg.
