Former Evangel basketball standout Jeremy Levesque, who led the area in scoring in 1999-2000, was killed in a car accident on Sunday. He was 21.
Levesque was driving to his home in Catlett with his brothers, Joshua and Jonathan, who were in a different car. Jeremy’s car veered off the road and flipped several times. He was pinned inside, according to Evangel activities director Rick Moore.
”Jeremy was very straight forward, he loved the Lord, and he was a strong Christian,” Moore said. ”He stood up for what he believed in.”
After graduating, he became an Air Force Reservist, serving in the Florida Air National Guard as a munitions technician. He remained on active duty for more than a year, and had just finished his active duty at the end of July. He was beginning to look for a job, Moore said.
At Evangel, Levesque played basketball in ninth grade while still learning as a homeschooler. He came to Evangel in 10th grade as a full-time student and continued to play basketball, scoring better than 20 points per game in his junior year. As a senior, Levesque, a 5-foot-11 shooting guard, led Prince William and Stafford counties in scoring at 24.7 points per game. While Levesque was 15 points behind Potomac’s Jernavis Draughn in total scoring, he played six fewer games than the Panthers standout — lifting his average to better than four points per game better than Draughn.
”He was a strong leader and he loved basketball,” said Moore. ”He lived life like he played basketball. He was fearless as our two-guard … it didn’t matter how many big guys there were, he’d get the ball to the basket. That’s the way he lived his life.”
Funeral services will be held this morning at 10 a.m. at Evangel Baptist Church in Dale City.
