Manassas Journal Messenger | Missing Boy Found in Potomac River

WOODBRIDGE (AP) — Rescue crews found the body of an 11-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming in the Potomac River yesterday afternoon near Leesylvania State Park.

But crews suspended the search for another missing swimmer, 33-year-old Christopher Meehan of Manassas, when his body did not turn up by last night.

Prince William County police spokeswoman Kim Chinn said five children got in trouble swimming in strong currents around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, prompting boaters and picnickers onshore to try to rescue them. Meehan and the 11-year-old boy, Chester Saykhamphone of Springfield, disappeared underwater.

The other four children were pulled out by people on a jet ski and a boat, Chinn said.

Chinn said swimming was prohibited at the spot because of the strong currents.
