Edward Carter

Edward “Monk” Carter, 78, of Warrenton, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Avante Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Harrisonburg.

He is survived by one daughter, Ann Fairfax of Warrenton; one sister, Harriet Saunders of The Plains; one brother, John Carter Jr. of Gainesville; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. service time Thursday at Joynes Funeral Home, 29 N. Third St., Warrenton, with the Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Solon Cemetery, Middleburg.

Geraldine H. Hennessy

Geraldine Howard Hennessy, 87, widow of John F. Hennessy, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in Manassas.

She was a graduate of Salem State Teachers College, Salem, Mass., in the 1930s and worked in public and private primary education throughout her life. She retired from Arlington County Public Schools in 1981.

Survivors include four daughters; one son; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Birmingham Green Nursing Home, Manassas.

Arrangements are by Lee Funeral Home of Manassas.

Preston Jacobs Jr.

Preston Jacobs Jr., 32, of Midland died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton.

Survivors include two sisters, Theresa A. Sloan of Midland and Sue A. Jacobs of Dale City; and three brothers, Adam S. Jacobs and Maurice E. Jacobs, both of Manassas, and Brian L. Jacobs of Midland.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Wes Shortridge officiating. Burial will follow at Dumfries Cemetery, Dumfries.

John J. McCarthy

John Joseph McCarthy, 50, of Mathias, W.Va., formerly of Manassas, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001.

Survivors include one daughter, Sonia M. McCarthy; his mother, Esther M. McCarthy; six brothers and sisters, Mary C. Welch, Anna Marie Saah, Robert F. McCarthy, Judith M. Fulton, Michael J. McCarthy and David K. McCarthy; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. The funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, with the Rev. Joseph R. Kenna officiating. Burial will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, followed by a reception at All Saints Catholic Church.

Roland G. Rock

Roland Gilbert “Joe” Rock, 54, of Stafford died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg.

He was a self-employed, home improvement contractor and a member of Colonial Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Rock; one daughter, Dianne E. Rock of Stafford; one son, Richard J. Rock of Alpharetta, Ga.; his mother, Dorothy Chamberlain Rock of Morrisonville, N.Y.; four sisters, Anna Miller of Morrisonville, Joyce Lawson of Fair Play, S.C., Sylvia Rancourt of Little Compton, R.I., and Linda Flynn of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; three granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 1 p.m. service time Wednesday at Colonial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mickey Creed officiating. Burial will follow at Stafford Memorial Park.

Cheryle Sincock

Cheryle Sincock, 53, of Dale City, died at the Pentagon on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.

She was a civil service employee for 15 years.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 25 years, Chief Warrant Officer Five Craig W. Sincock; her mother, Francis Thedans of Avoca, Minn.; four children, Debra Templin of Dale City, Stacey Foubare of Garrisonville, Michelle Miller of Dale City and William Mitchell, stationed in Korea; six grandchildren; and 10 siblings, Janet, Sharon, Mary, Sandy, Rhonda, Kevin, David, Jerome, Mark and Dennis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City, 14391 Minnieville Road, with burial to follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.

Charles E. Williams

Charles Emery Williams, 82, of Triangle, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Potomac Hospital, Woodbridge.

He was a member and ddeacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Triangle. He served in World War II and retired from the U. S. government.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leonard E. Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Reese Mae Williams of Triangle; one son, Vernon W. Williams Sr. of Dumfries; two sisters, Drucilla Roy of Alexandria and Odessa Scott of Triangle; one brother, Larry Williams of Triangle; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel Drive, Triangle, where a funeral service will be conducted at noon, the Rev. Alfred Jones Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.

Arrangements are by Ames Funeral Home, Manassas.
