Prince William police charged a 44-year-old Dumfries woman in the March 14 robbery of the Marumsco Plaza First Union bank at 13891 Jefferson Davis Highway, Detective Dennis Mangan, Prince William police spokesman, said Monday.
Sharon Michelle Brodus, of 17893 Milroy Drive, was charged with bank robbery Friday after the FBI identified her from surveillance camera stills from the robbery, Mangan said.
Brodus and an unidentified man walked into the bank, and handed the teller a note demanding money, Mangan said. They walked away following the robbery, Mangan said.
No weapon was used. Police are still looking for the man.
After Brodus was identified by the FBI, a 20-year-old teller recognized her during a photo lineup, Mangan said. A photo lineup consists of a series of photographs shown to a witness.
Police pulled Brodus over at the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and Va. 619 in Triangle, Mangan said. She was arrested, and led officers back to her hotel room which she gave them permission to search, Mangan said.
It was unclear on Monday why she was staying at a hotel so close to her home. The hotel is at the intersection where she was arrested.
Brodus’ friend, Ruth Michelle Boyce, 36, of an unknown address, was in the room and had cocaine, Mangan said. She was charged with possession of cocaine.
Prince William police detectives and FBI agents worked together in the investigation. The FBI assists in bank robbery investigations because bank money is federally insured.
Brodus is due in court at 11 a.m. on May 6.
Anyone with information on the identity of the man involved in the robbery is asked to call Prince William County Crime Solvers at (703) 670-3700.
Callers do not have to give their names or testify in court and may receive a reward of up to $1,000 for information that results in an arrest.
