Three charged in mugging

Manassas Police arrested three city residents they say beat and robbed a 34-year-old Manassas man near his home in the 9000 block of Sandalwood Drive at about 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Marc Woolverton, police spokesman, on Wednesday.

The victim told police he had been in an argument earlier with one of the three men who punched him, knocked him to the ground and stole his money, Woolverton said.

Police arrested Dennis Story Jr., 19, of 9010 Merrimack Drive; Ralph E. Barbour, 29, of 8902 Nicol Lane; and Bruce Wayne Washington, 32, of 9016 Merrimack Drive and charged the three with felony robbery, Woolverton said.

Police checked the neighborhood after the victim gave descriptions of his assailants, Woolverton said.

Within a few minutes of the assault, Woolverton said, Manassas Police Officer Glenn Cash spotted a man on Merrimack Drive who matched the description provided by the victim, and an independent witness verified that the man had been involved in the attack, Woolverton said.

Subsequent investigation led police to the two other suspects, Woolverton said.
