Man who led police on extensive chase charged with assault and battery

WOODBRIDGE A man who led police on an extensive chase and struggled with a police sergeant Wednesday afternoon faces several charges, including assault and battery of a police officer.

Karim Abdul, 19, of 2809 Woodmark Drive, Apt. 302, also was charged with robbery, grand larceny auto, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and obstruction of justice, said Prince William police spokesman Detective Dennis Mangan.

Police received a call that Abdul was at a house on Tassia Lane on Wednesday and when they arrived Abdul resisted arrest, police said. He ran into nearby woods, leading police on a chase that involved K-9 units and a Fairfax County police helicopter.

He was being held without bond at the Prince William-Manassas regional jail Thursday.
