Police continue search for inmate
who escaped from officer

MANASSAS — City police continued to search Saturday for a 24-year-old jail inmate who slipped away from a jail officer Friday morning. Early Saturday evening Abzerrak Bouarfa, a Manassas man, was still at large, according to Dave Lane, a Manassas police spokesman.

Bouarfa, who was serving a five-year sentence on two grand larceny convictions, was on a work detail at a warehouse in the 8400 block when he escaped at 10:23 Friday afternoon.

Intruders take jewelry from three homes

MANASSAS — Three homes were burglarized Friday, as an unknown number of intruders took approximately $3,200 worth of jewelry from two homes in the 9200 block of Traveller Street and one home in the 8900 block of Longstreet Drive, Manassas police said Saturday.

Antique diamond rings, gold necklaces, pear-shaped diamond earrings and an antique gold wedding band were all taken from jewelry boxes inside the three homes, said police spokesman Dave Lane. Lane added that several of the pieces of jewelry are engraved with an initial or a first name.

There was no sign of forced entry in any of the houses, Lane said.

Police ask that anyone with information call Crime Solvers at (703) 330-0330. Callers do not have to give their names or testify in court and may receive a reward of up to $1,000 for information that results in an arrest.
