Woman raped after abduction
A 25-year-old woman was raped off Thoroughfare Road near Haymarket, after being kidnapped from the parking lot of an area supermarket Sunday at 6 p.m., Detective Dennis Mangan, Prince William police spokesman said, on Monday.
The woman had just pulled into the Food Lion parking lot at 6701 Lea Berry Way in Haymarket, and was getting out of her car, when an armed man approached her.
He forced the woman to get back in the car — at gunpoint — with two small children in the back, Mangan said. She was then forced to drive away, Mangan said.
After she was raped in an area off the secluded road, the man robbed her of an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.
The two children were in the car the whole time, but were not hurt by the man. It was not clear if the assault occurred inside or outside of the car.
He then forced her to drive back to the Food Lion parking lot. There, he ran to a four-door, dark-colored vehicle. He fled onto Va. 55 in an unknown direction.
He is black, in his mid-20s, about 6 feet 3 inches, between 180 and 200 pounds, with a light-colored mustache. He was wearing jeans, a heavy black coat, and black knit toboggan hat, Mangan said.
The woman was treated at Prince William Hospital.
A Food Lion store manager refused to comment on Monday, deferring an inquiry by the Potomac News and Manassas Journal Messenger to the company’s corporate offices. Corporate officials did not return calls late Monday afternoon.
