Monarchs edge Arbutus Big Red

The Prince William Monarchs defeated Arbutus Big Red 16-14 with solid play from the defense and special teams.

The Monarchs’ defense stopped Arbutus Big Red’s offense three times inside the red zone on 4th down tries and free safety Russell William returned a kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown.

Quarterback Jamie Davis, who was 9 of 16 for 196 yards, connected to wide receiver Larry Clark for a 45-yard touchdown toss. Running back Russell Hunter rushed for 109 yards and fullback Johnnie Mixon finished with 43 yards. Kicker David Carroll connected on a 35-yard field goal but missed one extra point.

The Monarchs improved to 6-3 and will play their final regular season game against the Chambersburg Cardinals next Sunday at 2 p.m. in Chambersburg, Pa.
