Burton, Steele pace Eagles

WOODBRIDGE – Misty Burton scored twice and Amie Steele added a goal and three assists on Tuesday as undefeated Colonial Forge defeated Forest Park, 6-0.

Katie Gauthier, Amanda Gray and Kelly Broadhurst also scored for the Eagles, who combined for 31 shots on goal and improved to 6-0 heading into Tuesday’s Commonwealth District showdown at Stafford.

Amanda Miklejohn made 25 saves for Forest Park, which fell to 0-4 on the season. The Bruins play next in a tournament at Herndon on Friday.

– NORTH STAFFORD 3, CULPEPER 1: Marlo Cobb, Erin Murphy and Annie Ciechanowski scored goals for the Wolverines, who improved to 2-1 with a win over Culpeper (1-1).

Karen Price and Brittany Doyle added assists for North Stafford. Goalies Kiki Long and Erin West combined for five saves.

VOLLEYBALL

– GAR-FIELD 3, POTOMAC 1: The Panthers took the first game 15-13, but the unbeaten Indians rallied for three straight games (15-8, 15-1, 15-4) and the victory.

Emily Beauvais had 9 kills and Khelin Eure added seven more. Krista Noble had six aces and 15 assists for the Indians, who improved to 4-0. Potomac fell to 0-5 despite outstanding play from Jessica Bates and Stephanie Adkins.

– WOODBRIDGE 3, OSBOURN 0: The Vikings won their second straight match on Tuesday by handing Osbourn its first loss of the season.

Woodbridge improved to 2-1 overall.

Osbourn dropped to 6-1 despite eight kills and nine service points from Lydia Sumner.

– EVANGEL CHRISTIAN 2, FAITH CHRISTIAN 0: Junior middle hitter Katie Oakes had 13 kills and eight blocks and setter Terri Slade had a dozen assists on Tuesday to lead Evangel Christian to a 15-9,15-12 victory over Faith Christian.

The undefeated Eagles won their seventh straight behind a balanced offensive attack that featured nine first-game service points – including three aces – from Danni Howe.

Amanda Leatch had nine service points in the final game.

The Eagles host state power Mt. Carmel at home on Friday.

– EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN 3, QUANTICO 0: Janet Colgain led the Flames to a 15-9, 15-10, 15-13 sweep of Quantico on Tuesday with 12 service points.

Brittany Edgar also served up 12 points for the Flames, who improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Delaney Athletic Conference.

Nicole Andrews dominated game two with nine service points, including six straight.

BOYS SOCCER

– GRACE BRETHREN 4, EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN 2: Emmanuel Christian scored twice in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Grace Brethren on Monday.

Josh Tredinnick scored the Flames’ first goal off of an assist from Danny Figeuredo. Ben Lehmer tallied Emmanuel’s other goal.

In net for Emmanuel was Ben Stone. Stone stopped 20 shots on the afternoon.

The Flames (0-1), travel to Wakefield on Sept. 17.

GIRLS TENNIS

– OSBOURN PARK 7, HYLTON 2: Corrolla Ryuela defeated Jessica Lacko 6-3, 6-1 in number one singles to lead the Yellow Jackets’ victory over the Bulldogs.

Hylton’s Michelle Jamrisko defeated Amy Obertuessing 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at number two and Osbourn Park won the rest of the singles matches. Renee Messier defeated Heather Wheelock 6-0, 6-1 at no. 3, Fatima Latif defeated Michelle Vassallo 6-2, 6-3 at no. 4, Chelsea Cunningham defeated Priscilla Yu 6-3, 6-2 at no. 5 and Rosanna Payne defeated Amanda Cullen 6-1, 6-2.

Lacko and Wheelock defeated Messier and Payne 10-2 for Hylton’s other win, at no. 2 doubles. Obertuessing and Ryuela defeated Jamrisko and Vassallo 10-2 and Latif and Stephanie Surgent defeated Yu and Cullen 10-2.
