Potomac News Online | Manassas contractor charged with stealing

A Manassas contractor was arrested for allegedly stealing jewelry from a client’s home and police are asking for other possible victims to come forward, city police said.

Mark Vanzandt, 42, of 8875 Oliver Court, was charged with grand larceny and is being held without bond for Sunday’s robbery from a Manassas home, said Sgt. Tim Neumann police spokesman.

A 52-year-old city resident reported that someone stole several coin collections, a sterling silver dining set and assorted jewelry valued at more than $5,000 from his home in the 8500 block of Oakenshaw Drive in the Oakenshaw subdivision around 1 p.m., police said.

Vanzandt, who had been working in the house for two months as a hired contractor, sold several of the items to Manassas area pawn shops, police said.

Police ask that anyone else who hired Vanzandt to do work in their home or business call officer Hilbert at (703) 257-8110. Callers can also call Crime Solvers at (703) 330-0330.
