Timberline

Timberline Resort already claims the longest trail in the Southeast — the 2-mile-long beginner-level Salamander Trail.

The White Lightning Trail for advanced skiers doesn’t take as long because it’s closer to being straight down the mountain. This year it’s also wider.

“We almost doubled the width of it,” said general manager Tom Blanzy. “It’ll probably make it one of the best racing trails in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.”

Add to that last year’s opening of the intermediate-level Twister, and this year’s addition of lighting and a surface tow for snowboarders in the terrain park, and everyone has something to cheer about.

Those who prefer to cheer from slopeside lodging should keep their eye on lots that will become available this winter on the lower Twister trail.
