Canaan Valley

Canaan Valley, the first commercial ski area in West Virginia, will be celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

The anniversary weekend, Dec. 8-10, will feature games, music, ski and snowboard events and prices that reflect the occasion: $35 lodging, $35 lift ticket/ski rental combinations and 35 cent food and beverages.

Airboards — inflatable snow body boards that are maneuverable enough to handle ski slopes will be back in greater numbers and with a dedicated area of their own. During last year’s season, Canaan Valley became the sixth resort in the country to introduce airboards to the slopes.

The new terrain park for snow body boards will have low-to-the-ground features such as jumps and berms for those who want to catch some air or try a barrel roll. The terrain park for skiers and snowboarders also will have some new features.

Children of guests staying at the lodge will stay, eat and ski for free throughout the season.
