Get lost!

Tired of the kids?
Well, tell them to get lost.
This weekend, West Nursery in Mechanicsville will be opening its Maize Quest cornfield maze.
With 10,000 feet of paths through a 5-acre cornfield, it’ll be easy to lose the kids for a couple of hours.
In fact, Carrie Galla of West Nursery says visitors can expect to spend up to two hours completing the maze.
There’s also a shorter maze for the less ambitious as well as an even smaller straw bale maze for small children.
For the braver mazers if that’s a word — the nursery will have flashlight nights on Fridays and Saturdays in October. On those nights, the maze will be open until 10 p.m.
And, of course, there’ll be a flashlight night on Halloween. But you need to bring you own flashlights.
What if you can’t find your way out? Don’t worry. Each group that enters the maze is given a signal flag that can be waved to summon help. Also, staff members are throughout the maze offering hints.
This is the fourth year that West Nursery has had a corn maze, but it’s the nursery’s first year with the Maize Quest franchise. Maize Quest has designed more than 30 mazes in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. — Paul Whelan
