Sudley Manor extension to open
If you drive in the Linton Hall corridor, Tuesday you should notice a difference in your evening commutes.
Try the new Sudley Manor Drive extension that’s expected to be open Tuesday afternoon.
It connects the Va. 234 Bypass with Linton Hall Road. Road bond money paid for the construction.
It should relieve some congestion on U.S. 29 and Va. 28, county officials say.

Dear Lane Ranger: Back in June someone wrote you about no white lines on the side of Aden Road. You said it would be done before the month was over. They did put white lines on the side of Aden Road, but they stopped at the intersection of Aden and Fleetwood Drive. Aden Road goes all the way to Nokesville Road. How come there are no white lines on this part of Aden Road?

Dear Ray: The Lane Ranger asked Ryan Hall, the Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman, why the white lines aren’t there.
Ryan writes: “It turns out, it was no accident that the section of Aden Road west of Fleetwood toward Nokesville does not have white edge lines and points east toward Bristow Road does. Aden Road starting at Bristow Road snakes its way along Price William County where drivers encounter many sharp left and right curves. At night and when it is raining, motorists traveling on such roadways need additional visual cues to help keep them on the road. The section of Aden Road from Fleetwood to Nokesville is exceptionally straight and motorists have little problem navigating and staying in their lane without the edge markings, even at night and during inclement weather.”
Dear Lane Ranger: As I understand it, Minnieville Road is being widened in two consecutive county construction projects from Old Bridge Road (by Tackett’s Mill) to Caton Hill Road area. If that is correct, do they plan to either put a bike path and/ or connect the sidewalks between the two areas. Currently, it is very dangerous to walk or bike down either side of Minnieville. Even so, there is a lot of pedestrian traffic. Can we still affect the construction to ensure some kind of pedestrian pathway? It would be good to connect those neighborhoods with something other than roads (for cars).

Dear Paul: No worries. There will be a multi-use path on the north side of widened Minnieville Road and a sidewalk on the other, said Tom Blaser, director of Prince William County’s department of transportation.
Dear Lane Ranger: I have noticed over the years that there are some drivers, when trying to make a left hand turn at a traffic light, fail to use the wide white line that is painted in front of the travel lanes.
Either they go far beyond that line or stop a car length or more before it. Yet, they get visibly upset as the traffic signal goes through its cycle and doesn’t give them a green light.
Believe it or not, its not the light’s fault but yours. You are out of the light’s sensor range. It doesn’t know that you are there. So, please, use that wide white line and you will be making your left turn when you should.

Dear S.J.: Agreed. The lines are there for ease of traffic flow and more importantly, safety.
Delays expected
Expect single lane and shoulder closures along Interstates 395, 495 and 95 mornings and overnight today through Friday as construction crews work on the Springfield Interchange.
Most of the lane closures are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. through 5 a.m. On Friday daytime closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon.
