Pet Adopt-A-Thon, Fall Festival is today

The Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting its first Pet Adopt-A-Thon and Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Loy E. Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.

The Pet Resource Center will be open to promote health and safety tips for pet lovers. A reduced-cost micro-chip and rabies vaccination clinic will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Prices are $10/rabies vaccination and $25/microchipping, which includes a free lifetime registration.

Children can enjoy the Pumpkin Patch, face painting, story time, free raffles and a Halloween parade around the Pavilion. Each child dressed in a Halloween costume will receive a special goodie bag, while supplies last. There also will be raffles, contests for dogs, K9 Musical free-style demos and a variety of food booths, including barbeque chicken from the Buckhall Volunteer Fire Department.

The Great Pumpkin Dog Walk will be held in conjunction with the event to raise awareness for spaying/neutering of all pets in the community. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. and will take place in the downtown region of Manassas. Cost is $25 per person, which includes one dog. Children walk for free with adults. The first 100 walkers will receive a goodie bag with T-shirt, bandanna, treats and more.

A staff member of Rep. Tom Davis, R-11th, will be available to assist constituents with federal matters from 10 a.m. to noon today at the Dale City Recreation Center, 14300 Minnieville Road, Dale City.

Fair offers information about home buying

Prince William Manassas Area Housing Partnership is hosting a home buying information fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Freedom High School, 15201 Neabsco Mills Road, Woodbridge.

About 30 exhibitors from the home buying industry and state and federal government representatives will be present.

Lenders run free credit reports, provide credit scores and counselors can interpret scores and credit reports if participants desire. There will be fun activities for children and ongoing home maintenance demonstrations. Also offered are home buying orientation classes and understanding credit reports workshops in both English and Spanish.

Mason Neck State Park hosts Harvest Festival

An old-fashioned Harvest Festival, highlighting customs and traditions from Virginia’s harvest season and celebrating the hardworking people who lived on and worked the land, will be held at Mason Neck State Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

The festival features arts and crafts booths, demonstrations of skills such as butter churning, log cabin building, toy making and open fire cooking. There will be old fashioned games such as three-legged races, egg toss, graces and others. There will be hay rides and miniature pumpkins for children to paint. Food will be served by the local Lions Club.

The festival is free to attend with the regular $4 parking fee.
