Debate between Davis, Hurst set

Prince William County voters will have a chance to hear the candidates for the 11th Congressional District seat debate the issues Thursday.

The Prince William Committee of 100 and 15 other local groups will host a debate between Republican Congressman Tom Davis and his Democratic challenger, Andy Hurst. The moderator for this event will be Matt Brock, a Prince William County resident and reporter for ABC7/NewsChannel 8.

The 11th Congressional District includes the central and eastern Prince William County areas of Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, Occoquan and parts of Dale City and central Fairfax County.

Davis, 57, is a six-term congressman and former chairman of the Fairfax Board of County Supervisors. He is the chairman of the House Committee on Government Reform.

Hurst, 36, is a Springfield attorney and partner with the law firm of Reed Smith LLP, and active in the Fairfax County Democratic Committee.

This will be the only formal debate between the two candidates in Prince William County. It will be held at the Old Hickory Golf Club, 11921 Chanceford Drive, near the McCoart Government Center.

A social/cash bar begins at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the debate will begin at 8 p.m.

The cost of dinner is $20 for members of the Committee of 100 and cosponsoring groups. For others, the cost of the dinner is $25. Those who wish to attend only the debate will not be charged a fee.
