TAKE A RIDE

Prince William Little Theatre’s production of “Driving Miss Daisy,” the award-winning play by Alfred Uhry, opens Friday at Baldwin Elementary School in Manassas. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 28 with a 3 p.m. matinee on Oct. 22.

Susy Moorstein directs this heartwarming story of an elderly white woman in Atlanta and her friendship with her African-American chauffeur. The cast includes Ardith E. Collins as Hoke Colburn, Mona Kay Helper as Daisy Werthan and Bryan Marsh as Boolie Werthan.

Tickets are $12 for adults to age 59, $10 for seniors and students, and $6 for children ages 6 to 12. Groups of 10 or more (reserved in advance and paid as a block) receive the $10 discount rate. Tickets may be paid for at the door (cash or check).

STUDENT GUEST NIGHT

Middle and high school band students and their parents are invited to attend the YOPW Wind Symphony Student Guest Night at Gar-Field Senior High School on Monday from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. The group is conducted by Dr. Zuill Bailey.

Student Guest Night provides interested band students an opportunity to rehearse music with the wind symphony to determine if they would like to become a member. The Wind Symphony is composed of public,private and home-schooled students from the area who seek additional musical experiences.

Band students who play woodwind, brass or percussion instruments are invited to attend. The event is free.

‘If Walls Could Talk’ seeks area homes

“If Walls Could Talk,” the weekly series shown Sundays on HGTV, is coming to the Virginia area to film homes with intriguing pasts and unusual stories.

Now in production on its eighth season, the series kicks off with new homeowners who make surprising historical discoveries about their homes as they explore and restore them. A lucky few will be amazed to learn that the historic artifacts they’ve discovered are worth a fortune when the “If Walls Could Talk” appraiser drops by for a look.

Each half-hour episode features homeowners from across the country who share their amazing discoveries.

The series, which premiered in September 1998, has aired over 200 episodes – each filmed in historic neighborhoods throughout the country.

STEP BACK IN TIME

To mark the 225th anniversary of America’s decisive victory at Yorktown, Michael Cecere will talk about Northern Virginia’s role in the American Revolution at the general membership meeting of Historic Dumfries at 7 p.m. today at Weems-Botts Museum Annex, 3944 Cameron St., Dumfries.

Cecere is a local educator and Revolutionary War re-enactor, and recently authored a book on Northern Virginia’s role in the Revolution, ” In This Time of Extreme Danger.”
