• What could be more fun than panting like a dog in spandex? Walking briskly in spandex (panting is optional). It’s still not too late to register for the second annual Stonewall Jackson 5K race (or walk). The event will be Saturday, when participants will run (or walk) through historic neighborhoods in Old Town Manassas. Registration, which is $25, benefits the Manassas Museum and the department of parks and recreation.

• Have lots of love and patience wasting away? The Manassas and Manassas Park Departments of Social Services are holding pre-service training sessions for those interested in becoming foster parents. The sessions will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26-29 at 8955 Center St. in Manassas.
Attendance at all classes is required. And although the flier doesn’t specifically mention potential foster parents having lots of love and patience, don’t bother contacting social services if you are lacking either. You can attribute that directive to me.

• The Kiwanis Club of Manassas will reveal the winner of its annual $10,000 raffle on Oct. 15 at the Holiday Inn, Manassas. Tickets are still $100 with a maximum of 250 for sale. In addition to the grand prize, a lot of door prizes will be awarded. The club is also selling the new 2006 Entertainment Book for $25.
All proceeds benefit the club’s community betterment endeavors.
