Manassas Journal Messenger | Manassas Park bursts water main

A ruptured water main on Yost Street in Manassas Park caused some residents to lose running water Wednesday.

City employees were working on the line when it broke, City Manager Mercury Payton said.

“They were performing routine maintenance on the water line. It’s an old line, and it failed,” Payton said.

Residents of homes within a quarter mile of the break lost running water until Wednesday evening, Payton said.

The city’s nearby Recreation Center also had to shut down for the day. After-school programs were relocated elsewhere, and Parks and Recreation Department activities were cancelled until further notice, Parks and Recreation Director Catherine Morretta said.

“The break was on a street that backs up to us, so we were in the path,” Morretta said.

Payton said that today’s Parks and Recreation activities are likely to go forward as scheduled, as maintenance workers were repairing the break on Wednesday evening.

Inquiries can be made by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at (703) 335-8872.

Updates will also be posted on the city’s Web site at www.cityofmanassaspark.us.
